Prepare for offline geological fieldwork
G-Spyke supports offline stratigraphic logging. Installation, store updates and sending files to other people still require connectivity when those services are used.
Prepare before departure
Install or update the app while connected. Open a project, create a short test column and confirm that you can record a layer and export it. Check available storage for photographs and make a separate copy of any existing work you need to preserve.
Check the workflow in airplane mode
Try recording, editing and previewing your test column with the connection disabled. Check the location and camera permissions you intend to use. GPS reception depends on the device and surroundings; confirm the recorded position rather than assuming every fix is precise.
Record useful context in the field
Use consistent project and section names. Attach observations and photographs to their layers, and note uncertainty while you are still at the exposure. Offline operation does not imply cloud synchronization or a shared live project.
Copy and review the results
Export the column and its data after the session. When you reconnect, copy the files to a separate location and open them to check that they are usable. PNG and CSV exports are working outputs, not a promise of complete project backup or restoration.
